BRAZILLIAN BANDITS
In the year of the 2016 Rio Olympics FlipSide brought o’espirito do Brazil to Great Yarmouth through its cultural education project, From the Community to the World –an exhibition of life size wooden bandits by Brazilian born artist Ron King. For one week in May, 140 hundred school children aged from 7 – 13 years visited Skippings Gallery in King Street, met artist in residence Ron, learnt about Brazil, its legendary Cangaceiros (Bandits) and explored Ron’s unique work – tactile sculptures and interactive prints and unique artist’s books, which were all a huge hit. In-school workshops resulted in the children producing their own Brazil inspired books or ‘cordels’ which were then exhibited in the Minster during the Great Yarmouth Arts festival.
